Artrell Hawkins, Jr. (born November 24, 1976 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania) is a former American football defensive back of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft. He played college football at Cincinnati.

Hawkins played for the Bengals, Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots in his 10-year career before retiring as a member of the New York Jets prior to the 2008 season.

Early years

Artrell Hawkins, Jr. was born the son of Artrell Hawkins Sr. and Althea (Haselrig-Jones) Hawkins on November 24, 1976. Attended Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Hawkins as named conference offensive player of the year as a senior after rushing for a school record 1,487 yards, including a single-game record 265 yards, and 26 touchdowns. Hawkins' father, Artrell Hawkins, Sr. was a three-year letterman at the University of Pittsburgh and was signed by the Pittsburgh Steelers as a rookie free agent in 1981. Hawkins also lettered in basketball and baseball and majored in Football at Cincinnati.

Professional career

He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft, where he played cornerback for six years. After one year with the Carolina Panthers, he was signed by the New England Patriots.

Artrell now hosts a radio show called 2DeepZone on ESPN 1530 Cincinnati as well as MoHawk Mondays with fellow ESPN 1530 Cincinnati Co-host Mo Egger. In addition to ESPN 1530 duties, Artrell also does coverage on the Bengals Network and usually does post game analysis on local TV stations. His younger brother Andrew Hawkins currently plays wide receiver for the Bengals.
